千葉県曹洞宗真光寺の樹林墓苑

　千葉県の曹洞宗真光寺は、下総台地の豊かな里山の縁に位置している。いわゆる「林縁」とも呼ばれる多様な動植物が存在する場所である。この場所に区画・合葬墓型の自然葬を行うことにより、その本来の豊かな里山の自然をも再生させることができるのではないかと考える。従来型の樹木を植える樹林葬ではなく、「草原」の状態を維持していくこと、墓石の代わりに「野の花」を植えること、草葬（そうそう）を提案している。
　そこにただ墓苑としてあり続けるのではなく、里山の自然を担保し、周辺環境の保全・再生を担う礎となることを願い、今年の秋には、僧侶、施工者、そして、設計者が皆で協力し、施工した。

　　Shinkoji-zen-temple is surrounded by rich Satoyama forest in Shimousa highland. The site is located on “forest edge” where you could see variety of flora and fauna. We designed new natural burial ground here so as to revitalize Satoyama forest here. Instead of placing traditional stone grave, we proposed placing wild native grasses here, called “草葬Sousou”. The place will be managed as not only a cemetery but also a part of ecological foundation connecting to surrounding natural environment. Priests, constructors, and we as a landscape architect collaborated for construction of the garden.
