大分市「祝祭の広場」

　JR大分駅に近接した、大型商業施設跡地に整備された広場である。本計画にあたり行われた設計プロポーザルでは、回遊性や滞留性を高めて中心市街地の活性化に資すること、来街者や市民の憩いの場となること、イベント時には多くの人々が集う祝祭が演出できることなどが求められた。
　設計コンセプトは、ヨコミゾマコト氏を中心に検討がなされた。「祝祭の広場」を日本の社寺の境内と同質の場と捉え、象徴性と仮設性を主軸に据え、日常と非日常を行き来する神籬（ひもろぎ）の空間を現代都市に重ねることを提案した。大分の発展を支えた臨海工業地帯に見られる自走式門型ガントリークレーンに着目し、それを中心市街地に設置、移動させることによる異化効果を市街地活性化の源にしようと考えた。
　近年相次いだ自然災害とその備えからクレーンの設置は叶わなかったが、「大型屋根」と呼ばれる大小2基の構造体は敷設されたレール上を移動し、5つの配置パターンにより多様なイベントに対応する。
　植栽においても利用形態に合わせたフレキシブルな空間構成を実現するべく、ベンチ一体型の移動式植栽コンテナを設計した。それらは時に広場のインティメートスペースや、街路樹の一部にもなり得るものである。樹種は郷土種により常落織り交ぜた多彩な構成とした。時代と共に変化し続ける都市環境において持続性を持ったエレメントを重ね合わせ、場の文脈を支えることを意図した。

　　This is an urban plaza located in a vacant lot of a large commercial facility near JR Oita station. The requirement for the design proposal is vitalization of the city center and to create a place of relief with enhanced urban circulation and retention quality as well as to stage large urban events for their celebration.
　　Our design concept conducted by an architect, Makoto Yokomizo is to regard the urban plaza as grounds of shrine and temple where symbolism and temporality are set as a main axis and we can see ordinary and extraordinary experience in the same site which could be called “a place of Himorogi (sacred boundary)”. Oita city has been developed based on coastal industrial zone where we can see a self-propelled gate shape gantry crane. Our main idea is to set the movable crane as a symbolic landscape of vitalization for the city center.
　　This idea, however was not implemented due to their anxiety of natural disaster. Instead, we redesigned “large roof” composed of movable two structures with deferent dimension which could create five layout pattern to correspond variety of events.
　　In landscape design, we also proposed “movable container” as a planter so that we can arrange several spatial formations as an intimate space and street trees. We referenced regional native vegetation with a mixture of deciduous and evergreen species. We hope those movable containers symbolize urban vitalization and become a part of future context of the city.
