洞岩寺樹林墓苑「山岳風景葬」

　長野県南部の豊丘村・曹洞宗洞岩寺は、境内地が天竜川の河岸段丘をまたいで立地する。そこで将来構想として、斜面林に見られる郷土種の健全な維持と、丘の上から地域を一望する見晴らしの場づくりを提案した。墓苑整備が段丘面の保全を担い、地域の自然景観を守る。また、「洞岩寺中興の祖」である知久頼康公との由縁を語る上で、当地が知久氏の出城であった手掛かりを残すことにより人文景観としての価値も受け継ぐことになる。
　計画地標高の最高点は523ｍであり、天竜川から約100ｍの比高がある。丘の先端からの可視領域を解析すると、飯田市の市街地も見渡せる立地である。それは山城としての歴史的文脈を伝えると共に、雄大で美しい自然環境や想いの詰まった街並みの風景を眺められる広場として人々が愛着を持つことも期待される。
　具体的には既存のヒノキ植林を一定範囲で伐採し、木曽山脈への眺望景観を確保した。その伐採地を墓苑と見立て、張芝による草地化を図り、標示杭を設置して埋葬区画をとった。墓参の際はその区画毎に手を合わせて死者を弔う上、その場から眺望できる風景も祈りの対象とする。
　特徴的な地形を活かした山城が築かれ、のちにヒノキ植林など人の営みの中で利用されてきた当地が再び自然の植生を回復させていくというストーリーの中で、墓苑がその一過程となる草原を担い、死者を弔いながら次世代へと大地の在り様をつないでいく。

　　Toganji-zen-temple, Toyooka, Nagano is located on the river terrace of Tenryu river. We proposed this cemetery should be a view spot for perspective to the surrounding mountain and a place to maintain those health forest on the slope as a concept for the future. Toganji-zen-temple has strong relationship with Yoriyasu Chiku, a founder of the temple, who established old castle on this site, which meaning should be inherited as a cultural landscape.
　　The ground level of the cemetery site is 523m with 100m deference from Tenryu river. We have wider area of visibility from the edge point of the site including mountain range and Iida town district so that we expect this cemetery is not only a place for commemoration but also a historical heritage site as well as a place for people’s gathering with nice view to the dynamic regional panorama.
　　The thinning operation of existing plantation area was implemented so as to open the view to Kiso mountain range. We regard the opened area as a natural burial site and change into grass land. People would visit for both each burial area and the perspective landscape as a target for their commemoration.
　　The grass land might be said a temporary use as a burial site, as well as initial phase of plants succession as restoration ecology. This would be a long-term story for the future inherited from the history of mountain castle era.
